Vienna: More Than Just a Postcard

Imperial landmarks, waterside afternoons, and vineyard evenings woven into one warmer city guide.

See the city differently

The Vienna between the landmarks

Vienna. The name itself conjures images of imperial palaces, waltzing couples, and grand coffee houses. And while all of that is wonderfully true, there's another side to this city.

It lives and breathes along the waters of the Danube, in laughter-filled evenings at a cozy wine tavern, and in quiet moments watching the city lights from a hilltop.

This guide is your invitation to experience Vienna not just as a tourist, but as a local for a few unforgettable days. It's for the solo traveler charting their own course and for couples writing a new chapter together.

The Danube's embrace: Donauinsel & Alte Donau

When the sun comes out, head to Donauinsel. This 21.1 km island is Vienna’s open-air playground for cycling, relaxing by the water, and summer events like Donauinselfest.

For an urban beach mood, we recommend Strandbar Herrmann on the Danube Canal for cocktails, sand, and city vibes.

For a calmer experience at Alte Donau, rent an electric boat at Das Bootshaus, glide through peaceful water, and finish with dinner by the shore.

Vienna in summer

Cocktails by the canal, a boat ride on the Alte Donau, and enough room in the day to stay by the water a little longer.

A glass with a view

Our favorite is Heuriger Sirbu. Sit among the vines, order a crisp local white wine, and enjoy a classic Austrian snack platter.

A toast to the city: Kahlenberg & Nussberg

For breathtaking views, hike up Kahlenberg in the Vienna Woods and enjoy a panorama across the city and the Danube.

Then walk down through Nussberg vineyards and discover a true Viennese tradition: the Heuriger wine tavern.

Our favorite is Heuriger Sirbu: sit among the vines, enjoy local white wine, and order a classic Austrian platter.
